Vettel: It won't be easy for Jenson
sebastian talks about the concurrence for the season...
Sebastian Vettel is looking forward to the team-mate battles at the top teams this year, especially the fight between Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button at McLaren and Ferrari's Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso. "This season we might get lucky and talk about the racing rather than politics or business," Vettel said in an interview with the Guardian. "We've got Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and Red Bull. That's four teams and eight drivers. At the moment it's difficult to know who is at the top. One of us will finish first and one of us will finish eighth - with six others between. "And we have this interesting competition between team-mates. You've got two British drivers in a British team - with [Lewis] Hamilton and [Jenson] Button at McLaren. I don't think it's going to be easy for Jenson. Lewis is very quick and he has known this team for many years. You can see what he did back in 2007 when Fernando Alonso was at McLaren. So I'm very interested to see McLaren and Ferrari [where Alonso and Felipe Massa have had their moments of strife]. "Obviously in Germany people are more interested in Michael and Nico [Rosberg] and a rivalry between two German drivers. A lot of things could happen in all these teams. So I think the most spectacular combination is me and Mark because everyone knows we don't have a problem. Of course I want to beat him every time, and he wants to beat me, but we get along well." "You might think I'd get more attention this year," he said, "but there has actually been less focus on me. This is all because some old German guy decided to come back. He is keeping all the German writers very busy and that's good for me. I take my hat off to the old guy." Source: PlanetF1

02.27: Vettel downplays reliability concerns
after minor problems in testing...
Sebastian Vettel has downplayed Red Bull's pre-season reliability niggles, saying every stoppage hasn't been a serious problem. While Red Bull have shown pace during pre-season testing, the team has also suffered a number of reliability issues with both Vettel and his team-mate Mark Webber causing their fair share of red flags. "No, not worried," he told Autosport when asked if the reliability of the RB6 was an issue. "Obviously you don't want to stop, but sometimes you don't want to risk any damage and it's better to shut the car down if you see something wrong on the data. Obviously in the race you'd try to continue, so sometimes it's nothing bad but it's better to shut the car down and bring it back and have a look. But obviously ideally you keep on running and you park the car in the garage and not somewhere on the circuit. But I don't think we have to fear reliability issues yet. It looks good. Everything that happened I think is normal. We have a new car, new parts, everything is a bit new and slightly different in design. The cars have changed, a bigger fuel cell but also lots of new small parts, everything has changed slightly and sometimes you realise you should've done it a bit differently, but you are on top of those things very quickly." As for suggestions that Red Bull, together with Ferrari, look the stronger of the outfits heading into the season-opening Bahrain GP, Vettel believes it's too tight - and too confusing - to really tell. "One day it looks like that. I think today Ferrari looked extremely quick. Probably this morning it was lower fuel - if you go in the 1m20s you have to be on low fuel - and also on the long run [Fernando] Alonso was quite quick. I don't know what was going on with McLaren and Mercedes today. I haven't looked that closely but they didn't seem to be that quick today. But you look at the other days at Jerez and you look at yesterday and probably the next two days as well and you'll have another surprise. Sometimes it shifts. But I think overall it will be extremely tight. All four teams are big teams and they have proven many times in the past that they are competitive. So it will be a close fight. Obviously I would love to tell you that we are a second ahead of everyone, but at the moment at least it's not the case." Source: Planet F1 | Thanks: Fran

TESTS / Day 02: "We still have a lot to do"
rbr barcelona test notes...
“It was good today – we didn’t have any major problems. We had to stop in the afternoon for a minor issue, but it’s quite normal in testing. When you’re testing, you don’t want to risk any damage so it’s best to switch the car off and stop if you don’t have to push when there’s an alert in the background. We had a lot of rain in Jerez so we still have a lot to do over the last two days here, such as finding out more about the tyres and doing some set up work.” Sebastian Vettel will be driving again tomorrow and then Mark will be back in the cockpit for the final day of testing on Sunday. 02.26: Jaime backs Sebastian for title
and doesn't list mercedes as favourite...
Jaime Alguersuari does not think Mercedes is among the contenders for the 2010 world championship. The German team, formerly the 2009 title-winning Brawn GP outfit, has signed seven time world champion Michael Schumacher and is regularly listed among the season favourites Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren. But Toro Rosso driver Alguersuari said in the Spanish press: "Mercedes are in the second group, along with us, Williams and Sauber." "If I had to choose one (title favourite) I would say Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel." Source: F1Complete | Thanks: Fran
